Students Get Their Game On
If you're a Bradley student looking for something fun to do on a Saturday afternoon, the Party Game Club could be the ticket! Junior game design major, Jacob Lee, founded the club this semester, which has become an instant hit. He says the beauty of the club is that members can play any kind of game—digital or analog—as long as it’s sharable. The most popular games are Super Smash Bros, Mario Party and The Jackbox Party Pack series.
The club already boasts more than 80 members, with average game day attendance hitting between 20 and 40 members cycling through the event. Even though many of the players are introverted by nature, Lee said it's never quiet—people are socializing and laughing the whole time.
Two categories of people come to game days—hosts and players. “Hosts come in and set up their stations for play. It’s first come first serve, although we are not opposed to people bringing in their own TVs if they are that committed,” Lee explained. Game days generally last three hours in which members play a variety of multiplayer games.
Sophomore UX design major, Ethan Rekeweg, serves as a host and said, “My goal is to create an environment where people feel comfortable and welcome to join and play the games I’ve set up. To minimize the problem of people standing around, I choose games that have more than four players, so more people are engaged.”
“My favorite game is Jackbox because it’s so fun to play with the other club members,” said freshman Andres Gonzalez. “I’m laughing most of the time I’m there.”
“The thing about our club is we heavily promote it as a low-commitment club. We want people to come when they want and leave when they want. I know most campus clubs are pretty committal, so having an option for escape is what we aim to provide,” Lee said.
