Psychology
The nationally recognized psychology department grounds you in human behavior research to prepare you for graduate school and professional opportunities.
Preparing You for Success
The psychology department, honored by the American Psychological Association and International Honor Society in Psychology, engages you in the scientific study of behavior. You can apply what you learn in the classroom through practicum and research opportunities. Classes sizes are small so you get to know professors who are scholars in their fields. Because psychology is broad, you can study areas such as developmental, educational or social psychology. Courses also are available in behavioral and social neuroscience.
By the time you graduate, your experiences may include:
- Opportunities to conduct year-round research mentored by faculty
- A chance to study cutting-edge research in neuroscience
- Networking and career development through national and international research conferences, Bradley’s Psychology Club and Psi Chi honor society
- Practicum and internship experiences in schools, hospitals, business and social service agencies
Making Your Mark
In addition to fascinating courses in social psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, neuroscience, behavioral psychology and more, you can grow personally and professionally outside the classroom by:
Conducting research: Almost all of our faculty are active researchers whose collaborators are students just like you. Reach to your professors to find ways to get involved running studies and presenting research at conferences.
Taking advantage of internships: Through PSY 341 and 342 and LAS 300, many of our students get practical experience working in psychiatric facilities, community non-profit organizations, schools, and government facilities.
Becoming a leader in Psi Chi/Psychology Club: Our Psychology Club is an active student-led organization that plans social activities, professional development opportunities, and service outings. It’s a great way to build skills and make friends too!
Double majoring in other fields: Psychology is even better in combination with other majors like Organizational Communication, Kinesiology, User Experience, Pre-Law-Political Science and more. Click here for our double major ADVISING GUIDES.
