PLUS Loans for Undergraduate Students
The PLUS is a federal borrowing opportunity for parents of undergraduates (enrolled in at least 6 credit hours). The interest charged on parent PLUS loans borrowed between July 1, 2024 and June 30, 2025 is 9.08%, and there is a 4.228% origination fee. Repayment is typically figured for a period of 120 months beginning when the loan is fully disbursed. Parent PLUS loans are eligible for deferment of repayment until the student graduates or leaves school. To request a deferment, call 800-848-0979. PLUS borrowers choosing to begin immediate repayment will start paying approximately 30 days after the loan is fully disbursed.
The PLUS loan application process is done online at Studentaid.gov. You will first need to log into the site using your FSA ID. If you do not have an FSA ID, you can request one at this site. The application will give you one of three choices concerning the amount you want to borrow:
- Enter a specific dollar amount
- Select "Maximum Amount" (Bradley will determine that number)
- Select "Don't know" (Bradley will certify the loan for maximum amount of eligibility)
If you intend to borrow for a period less than a full academic year, please contact our office prior to applying. Also, if you are a first-time borrower, following approval you will need to complete a Master Promissory Note. You should do this before leaving the loan application website. Finally, the student for whom you are borrowing must have completed a FAFSA covering the academic year coincident with your PLUS loan period.
