Music Minor

The 24-hour music minor, open to all students by audition, strengthens your appreciation for music through courses in theory, history, ear training and sight singing. You also participate in one of music department’s 15 ensembles and take vocal or instrumental lessons. Designed for personal growth or career preparation, the minor can easily be paired with majors from across the university.

Minor Requirements

Required Courses - 24 hrs.

  • Applied Music (4 semesters) - 4 hrs.
  • MUS 001: Recital Lab (4 semesters) - 0 hrs.
  • MUS 109: Music Appreciation - 3 hrs.
    or MUS 203: History of Music - 3 hrs.
  • MUS 141/341, 142/342, 143/343, 144/344, 145/345, or 146/346 - 4 hrs.
  • MUS 161: Music Theory I - 2 hrs.
  • MUS 162: Music Theory II - 2 hrs.
  • MUS 163: Ear-Training and Sightsinging - 1 hr.
  • MUS 164: Ear-Training and Sightsinging - 1 hr.
  • MUS 165: Keyboard Skills - 2 hrs.
  • MUS 166: Keyboard Skills - 2 hrs.
  • Choose one:
    • MUS 380: Western Music to 1750 - 3 hrs.
    • MUS 381: Western Music 1750-Present - 3 hrs.
    • MUS 382: Music & World Cultures - 3 hrs.
    • MUS 383: History of American Music - 3 hrs.
